Dating is about the interaction between two people – emotional, mental and physical – and it all begins with an exchange of ideas and feelings.  The only way this exchange can take place (unless it is an online date) is through conversation – the man and woman speaking to each other.  A first date can be awkward and getting a conversation started, let alone keeping it going, can be tough so here are some dating tips on conversation.

Humor is the key any dating conversation – no matter how serious the other person may be, making them smile or laugh out loud is the best way to get them to open up to you.  When two people can recall funny times from the past and share private jokes, they are on their way to developing a serious relationship with a strong foundation.  A relationship is based on differences as much as things in common so do not be afraid of talking about your differences, it will keep the relationship from getting stale.  Take an interest in aspects of your date’s life that does not directly concern you and ask questions to develop a deeper understanding – this is a great way to add value to a relationship and also to develop a better and deeper understanding and appreciation of the connection that the two of you share.

Besides accepting and understanding differences, sharing common thoughts and emotions can also help you to understand each other better because the same passion can have different affects on people and being able to understand this will allow you to understand each other better.  The more you encourage each other to be open in what you both say, the more you will grow as human beings and this will enable you to look at each other with new perspectives which will only add to the strength of your relationship.  Any list of dating tips on conversations will be incomplete if mention is not made of the importance of listening – not just listening with attention to what is being said but asking questions to demonstrate your interest and show that you are interested in your date as a person and not just a one night stand.

Never try and dominate a conversation – your date is an equal partner with an equal right to say what her or she wants to – blocking your date’s opportunities to talk will mean blocking interest in you.  There is nothing wrong in arguing over things as long as both of you understand that you both have a right to express your views and not agreeing with the other does not mean that you value them less – in fact, a good argument often clears the air and gets rid of a lot of pending irritiants so a relationship can pick up speed again.
